With more than 130,000 people across the UK diagnosed with MS, it is important that people with this condition have access to the best treatments available and are supported with the cost of living.
Please be assured that I understand the challenges that many people living with MS are facing with the rising cost of living. Depending on their circumstances, it is possible that a person living with MS will be eligible for disability benefits.
I welcome that the Government provided six million people with disabilities and chronic health conditions – including MS – with a Disability Cost of Living Payment of £150 between 20 June and 4 July 2023. This support is in addition to the £650 Cost of Living Payment to recipients of means-tested benefits, to support people with low incomes with the rising cost of living and a further payment of up to £900 which will be provided in three lump sums from summer 2023.
