Derbyshire Dales Member of Parliament Sarah Dines asked The Prime Minister today;
‘My right Honourable Friend will know that the quarries of the Peak District provide a huge proportion of the national building and mineral needs of the nation. We would be delighted to see him in Derbyshire Dales to see at first hand the quarries and quarrymen that will be at the heart of our post-Brexit economy, as well as allowing him to see the need for the Ashbourne by-pass that is necessary to help transport their products. Doesn't our support for these hard-working people show yet again that it is this party ― the Conservative Party ― which is the real workers party?’
Mrs Dines said, ‘ I was delighted that the Prime Minister has pledged to visit Derbyshire Dales as fast as possible and get to the bottom of what we can do to support the bypass at Ashbourne. The town’s historic buildings and narrow streets are under constant pressure from HGV traffic traveling to and from the mineral quarries that are located a few miles north of the Town.
Local residents have been campaigning for over 40 years for a bypass and the constant vibration, pollution and vehicles unable to pass one another is having a profound effect on the wellbeing of residents and destroying the historic fabric of the Town.
Derbyshire County Council has long recognised the need for a by-pass and has committed a Million pounds to carry out a full feasibility study which will conclude this year.’
