There are now sixteen electric vehicle charging points across Derbyshire Dales, but Sarah Dines MP would like to seen even more.
Sarah Dines MP said, ‘Electric vehicles will play a crucial role in helping the UK reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, and I am pleased that, as part of an ambitious Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution, the Government is taking decisive action to end the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030. However, having a reliable, accessible, affordable and secure network for EV drivers will be central to the success of this exciting green shift. As such, it is welcome that funding for the On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS) will continue into 2021/22, allowing residents without private parking to reliably charge their vehicle.
I understand that the number of public electric vehicle charging points is growing rapidly, with sixteen charging points across Derbyshire Dales and the County and District Council are committed to making use of government schemes to increase the amount of charging points in our area.
Prior to the March Budget last year, I personally made representations directly to the Prime Minister and the Chancellor, calling for further funding for electric charging points across Derbyshire Dales. I have continued to press Ministers on this matter whenever I can and I am due to meet The Chief Executive of the Peak District National Park, Sarah Fowler again to discuss this issue and others shortly. I want to assure you that I will continue to work with Derbyshire Dales District Council, Derbyshire County Council and the Peak District National Park Authority on the continued rollout of electric vehicle charging points.
The provision of public charging points, in the majority of cases does require a stable internet connection and so this provision must be linked with the increase in broadband and internet services across Derbyshire Dales, something I am continually pushing for.’
