Following Sarah Dines MP meeting with the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport The Rt Hon Oliver Dowden MP this week she is delighted to say that our much loved community cricket clubs will at last be able to play again from next weekend! This will enable Derbyshire Dales District Cricket to complete a shortened league this summer.
Detailed Covid secure guidance will be published in the forthcoming coming days to ensure that safety and the science is at the forefront of the sport starting up again. Over the last week not only has Sarah met with the Secretary of State but of course visited local clubs.
Sarah said, ‘during my visit to local clubs I was quite touched by just how much cricket means to our communities. Sue Marshall Chair of Wirksworth and Middleton Cricket Club and Liam Duffy of Ashbourne Cricket Club were both so inspirational particularly in relation to their community outreach work, to name but a few. I was really impressed by the hard work and careful thought that has gone into making sure they can operate safely. I cannot wait to hear the sound of leather on willow again!’
