On Friday 27th January, Sarah Dines MP met Sgt Hopwell to discuss traffic policing in Derbyshire Dales and joined PC Martin Carter on a speed patrol of the A6 and North of Ashford in the Water in the constituency.
Sarah Dines MP commented: “Speeding and noise from illegal exhausts are two topics that constituents’ contact me about regularly and I am determined to find solutions so that residents in our area feel safe on our roads and are not disturbed by illegal vehicle exhausts.
To learn what steps our local police are doing to keep our roads safe, I requested the opportunity to join Derbyshire Police on a local speed patrol and I am very grateful that they agreed.
I was taken to two well-known speeding hotspots, one on the A6 and the other north of Ashford in the Water to see the speed checks in action. I was grateful to learn more about the structure of the Traffic Police and how the force has to balance a presence at speeding hot spots and also reacting to live events and incidents.
The police prioritise spotting and acting on the illegal activity that often causes crashes that unfortunately sometimes can be fatal. These issues include driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding, not wearing seatbelts correctly and distractions such as mobile phone use.
I was pleased to see our local Police dedicated to making sure our roads are safe and I would like to thank our Police Officers who work tirelessly for us locally.’’
