On Friday 24th June, Sarah Dines MP visited Forged Solutions in Darley Dale.
Sarah Dines MP said, ‘On Friday I was pleased to have the opportunity to visit Forged Solutions in Darley Dale. Simon Pickering, formerly of Rolls-Royce, recently joined the company in the prestigious role of General Manager. Simon took the time to explain the history of Forged Solutions which roots date back to 1837 in Sheffield and the site which I visited was founded in 1942. It was fascinating to hear about the evolution of the company, including when the rooves were painted green with cows, in order to give the impression of fields during World War II, to avoid the site being bombed.
Founded in 1942, the company currently employs around 145 staff. Simon explained his plans for the future, which include modernising facilities for workers, and undertaking a recruitment drive where the company will seek both skilled and unskilled workers with opportunities to train on the job. In addition, Forged Solutions has a number of apprenticeship positions.
Simon showed me around the factory where I had the chance to see the forging process in action, performed by the highly skilled workforce. It was a pleasure to meet Simon and other members of the Team and I look forward to seeing this local business grow from strength to strength.’
