The Grand Pavilion at Matlock Bath has been awarded £50,000 from the Government. 1,385 theatres, museums, performance groups and arts across England will receive a share of £257 million from the Government – part of a wider £1.6 billion Culture Recovery Fund to get the sector back on its feet after coronavirus. This funding will be used to help performances to restart, to allow venues plan for reopening and to protect jobs and create new opportunities for freelancers.
The awards are being made by the Arts Council England and comes on top of £103 million of emergency funding that has been distributed from the Culture Recovery Fund for heritage venues and £3.5 million of emergency funding for music venues.
Sarah Dines MP said: ‘I was delighted to return to The Grand Pavilion Matlock Bath. I first visited before I was elected, nearly a year ago. This time I was lucky enough to be shown around by Judy Chappell and Victoria Arran. The Grand Pavilion is a fascinating part of local history and is truly an incredible building. During both World Wars the building was used to support the nation’s serving forces through various events such as patriotic films shows and fundraising concerts and by providing space for serving officers to organise and feed their men. The Pavilion has played an important part of local history and it is absolutely right that our heritage should be preserved. I look forward to returning in the future to see what has been done with the money they received from the Culture Recovery Fund.’
