On Friday 25th March Sarah Dines MP met with Jan Hobot, Haddon Estate River Keeper and River keeper Mark in Alport to discuss river management and flooding issues.
Sarah Dines said, ‘I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed meeting Jan and Mark and being shown along the river, upstream of Alport. The weather was glorious, so we were able to walk the length of the river bank and discuss the river in depth. Flooding is a complex issue in Derbyshire Dales and I was grateful to meet Jan and Mark and to gain a greater understanding of the role of river management in flood management in our area. We spoke about the value of rivers to the environment and the rural economy and the work the Haddon Estate have been doing over the past two decades to preserve this very special place on the Lathkill river. This is enormously important work and I am grateful for it.
It was fantastic seeing all the work that Jan and Mark do to maintain the riverbanks, to reduce flooding and ensuring that wildlife is able to flourish, whilst allowing those in the club to be able to fish in such amazing surroundings. It has to be one of the most beautiful stretches of water that I have ever come across, and we were incredibly lucky with the stunning spring weather.’
