The Government has announced the largest single investment in affordable housing in a decade. This investment will support 370,000 new jobs, 119,000 new homes and is an investment of £8.6 billion. In the East Midlands over 9,000 new affordable homes have been announced.
Sarah Dines MP said, ‘The government’s investment into affordable housing is welcome and much needed. I know from talking to residents they want to see affordable homes in our area, so I am delighted that over 9,000 new affordable homes have been announced for our region. I am making representations to ask that Derbyshire Dales has access to this support so that we can see more affordable homes in the District and I know the District Council will be looking into this as a priority.
House prices in Derbyshire Dales are high, understandably as this is a fantastic area to live, but it is very upsetting to see young people moving away from our area as they are priced out of the market. We need truly affordable homes as we need young people to build their lives here in Derbyshire Dales, to keep village schools going, to support the local economy and to start and grow businesses here in our area. I am very pleased to see this investment by government which will have a fantastic impact in our region and I hope a direct impact here in Derbyshire Dales.’
