On 6th September, Sarah Dines MP privately met the Home Secretary Priti Patel to discuss residents’ concerns regarding illegal immigration and migrant crossings from France.
Sarah Dines MP said, ‘I fully support the Home Secretary in her efforts to stop unsanctioned migrant crossings from France and I am pleased that she is taking a strong approach in warning France that agreed funding to prevent and intercept crossings, will not be paid if more illegal crossings are not intercepted before they arrive on UK shores. These crossings are facilitated by criminals and human smugglers. The crossings are not safe and pose a direct risk to the lives of those that put their trust into smugglers and criminals.
Our country is a welcoming nation, rightly so, but illegal immigration directly limits our capacity and ability to offer asylum and support to genuine refugees. Supporting those in need is something we should all be for, but there are correct channels to do so and all illegal immigration does is prevent us from helping those most in need.’
