Sarah Dines MP raised the question of digital connectivity issues with The Minister for Digital and Broadband Matt Warman MP.
Ms Dines said, ‘Many constituents contact me to complain about poor broadband services in their area. Access to these services are vitally important and poor digital connectivity impacts businesses, education and day to day life.
I took this opportunity to raise the broadband issues in the communities of Chelmorton, Cressbrook, Stanton in Peak, Birchover and Taddington to the Minister as more and more constituents are concerned about broadband issues. I was very pleased that The Minister agreed that more remote areas need digital investment and that the constituents of Derbyshire Dales will not be left behind. I will continue to raise this issue to ensure that residents in Derbyshire Dales are getting the best possible services.’
Ms Dines question: Does my hon. Friend agree that remote communities in the Derbyshire Dales, such as Chelmorton, Stanton in Peak, Birchover, Taddington and Cressbrook, like other parts of the country, need to be levelled up and have a chance of getting decent broadband, because they have been forgotten?
Minister’s response: It is precisely because of the needs of remote areas such as those in her constituency that we are investing £5 billion in gigabit-capable broadband. I know that, with her speaking up on behalf of her constituents, they will by no means be left behind.
