On Saturday 27th June Sarah Dines MP visited residents and members of the Parish Council at the Hathersage open-air swimming pool, to discuss their shared view that the pool should be reopened as soon as possible. As many will know this much loved local institution has just undergone a significant refurbishment and is ready to open for business.
Sarah Dines said, ‘I met with members of the Parish Council who were disappointed that the opening of swimming pools was not included in the relaxing of lockdown measures. I visited the pool in Hathersage, to talk to residents and see the pool for myself.
The pool is a fantastic facility and it is clear that all stakeholders have taken seriously the task of making the pool safe for visitors. I was given a useful and informative tour by the manager and saw first-hand the vast amounts of refurbishment work that has taken place.
Following this visit I met with the Secretary of State, for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, The Rt. Hon Oliver Dowden MP and discussed Hathersage Pool with him. I will continue to lobby the Government for our open air pool to re-open as it certainly appears to be a much lower risk to users than an indoor pool and there are indeed significant risk mitigation measures planned to enable safe swimming. Thank you to all those who took the time to show me this wonderful pool.’
