Sarah Dines MP is backing the annual, Keep Britain Tidy litter campaign calling on volunteers across Derbyshire Dales to help improve the environment on their doorstep.
Originally named the ‘Great British Spring Clean’ the campaign was moved from the original date in March due to the start of Coronavirus pandemic and is now the Great British September Clean.
Keep Britain Tidy is hoping that the more than 680,000 volunteers who promised to give their time, enthusiasm and excitement to this campaign in the Spring will return to join forces to collect and safely dispose of single-use plastic from our streets, parks and beaches, recycling as much as possible.
Sarah Dines MP said, ‘Following a morning volunteer led clean up in Tissington, I was delighted to support volunteers who were litter picking in Bakewell on Saturday 12 September. We were joining the “Great British September Clean”. I was delighted that the Civic Chairman of Derbyshire County Council, Mrs Judith Twigg, local Councillors and residents from Bakewell joined me in doing our bit to keep Bakewell looking as good as it should. It is a shame that volunteers must do this action in the first place, but it is brilliant to see local people giving up their time to make sure our area is clean and tidy. It was amazing how much plastic had blown into the bushes in the park. There was even a car hubcap inside the park as well as a plastic bottle in the tennis courts!
Can I thank everyone who took part in this clean up and put out a plea for more volunteers to join us in the future.’’
