Back in June I fought hard to get our swimming pools, both open air and indoors, to re-open after lockdown and I was delighted when they did.
I am really saddened that the lockdown is likely to see these closed again. Last week I visited the Bakewell swimming pool on its re-opening and it’s very upsetting that lockdown will see it close again. I was greeted by the team in Bakewell who were overjoyed to be back in work and serving the community once again. I also visited the Wirksworth pool in the summer and was impressed with their renovations and Covid-safe planning.
We have two great open-air pools in the Dales, the Hathersage pool and the New Bath Hotel pool in Matlock Bath. Over the weekend I have contacted the Ministerial team and made my views known that our pools have huge physical, mental and social benefits to the community and that they should stay open. They know the strength of my feeling and this week I will continue to raise this to the highest possible level.
