During the pandemic, Hartington Creamery looked towards new selling platforms, so that consumers could still enjoy their produce. They began selling on Ebay and were doing well on the platform until they were given a permanent ban from selling on the site, without an explanation or a clear appeals process. Hartington Creamery approached Sarah Dines MP to help and Sarah was able to get the ban reversed.
Sarah Dines MP said, ‘Every now and then a large organisation takes a decision which appears to make very little sense. When Ebay banned Hartington Creamery from selling their products on the platform, I was disturbed that Hartington Creamery had very little opportunity to appeal the decision, nor were they given a clear explanation as to why the ban happened in the first place.
This pandemic has had a devastating effect on local businesses and it is disheartening to hear of businesses facing difficulties when they are trying their best to survive. I was delighted that I was able to intervene and have the decision overturned so that Hartington Creamery can sell on Ebay again. I am thankful that the CEO of Ebay has assured me that training will be conducted for Ebay staff so that situations like this do not happen again.
Please do all you can to support local businesses in our area. We have some fabulous producers and suppliers and they need our support.’
