On Friday 23rd April Sarah Dines MP welcomed The Prime Minister to Longstone Moor Farm in Stoney Middleton, to meet members of the NFU and to discuss farming issues during the pandemic and the new opportunities for farmers now that we have left the European Union.
Sarah Dines MP said, ‘It was such a privilege to have the Prime Minister visit Derbyshire Dales. The weather was glorious and the Prime Minister was particularly lucky as the farm we visited had many new lambs and calves.
Farming is such a longstanding Derbyshire tradition and a vital part of our local economy. I know that the Prime Minister is dedicated, like I am, to getting the best for our farmers. I come from a farming background and my family knows first-hand that farming is an incredibly difficult profession, with incredibly long hours.
Angelique Foster the Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner candidate for this May’s election was in attendance and we took the opportunity to discuss rural crime issues with the Prime Minister. Conservative County Council candidate for the Bakewell Division, Alasdair Sutton raised with the Prime Minister the need to support rural communities such as ours and I was pleased to hear the Prime Minister once again emphasise his dedication to our rural communities.
The National Farmers’ Union led by President Minette Batters, are a fantastic organisation that support farmers across the country. Here in Derbyshire Dales they have provided vital support to local farmers during the pandemic. It was a good opportunity to discuss farming issues with Minette and other members of the NFU and to thank them for the work they do. I want to thank the NFU, the Prime Minister for visiting and the Fairfax family for welcoming us to their wonderful farm.’
