Hospitality businesses across the Country and in Derbyshire Dales have been struggling to fill positions on their teams. Sarah Dines MP has been working with local businesses in the area to link them up with school leavers and pupils at Derbyshire Dales schools looking for summer jobs.
Sarah Dines said, ‘As our hospitality businesses are opening up and working through an incredibly busy time, it is sad to hear that many of them are struggling to find employees. I know from talking to residents that young people are concerned about getting work experience and jobs, so I took it upon myself to create a virtual jobs fair for Derbyshire Dales sixth form and year 11 pupils. I contacted hospitality businesses across the area and I am delighted to say that we have now provided the schools with over 150 positions in the hospitality industry for pupils to apply for. These jobs range from serving in local pubs, hotel and wedding venues, gardeners, trainee chefs and café workers, offering both full time and part time positions. The schools are holding assemblies and teaching in tutor time and I have provided packs of all the job descriptions, as well as handy tips on completing a CV and cover letter.
By employing pupils or school leavers, local businesses are giving our younger generation the opportunity to gain work experience, which I know from talking to young people and my older constituents, ensuring there are opportunities for our younger generations is a real concern. By employing local people, local business are supporting our local economy, which in turn puts money back into our local area. Local businesses benefit by having a young and vibrant team and hopefully the scheme is of benefit to pupils and businesses alike.
I would like to thank all the local businesses who have provided job descriptions to make this project a reality and Anthony Gell School, Lady Manners School, Highfields School and Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School Ashbourne Academy, for encouraging and facilitating this job fair, my hope is that pupils take this opportunity to gain experience’
